Gerard Ferguson co-founded Jemekk Capital Management Inc. in 2004. Prior to starting his own firm Gerard was a vice president and portfolio manager at AGF Management Ltd., one of Canada's largest mutual fund companies. He began his career in money management in 1993 and became a Portfolio Manager in 1996. Gerard is highly recognized for his expertise in small to mid capitalization stocks.
Gerard graduated from The Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in 1993 and began his investment career as an analyst. His initial duties included trading and portfolio management of Canadian equity and fixed income securities.
Throughout his eleven years at AGF Gerard managed or co-managed nine different Canadian equity and balanced funds ranging in size from $50 million to $800 million. He became a vice president and lead portfolio manager in 1996. From 1999 to 2004, Gerard managed a $360 million Canadian mid and small cap fund.
Gerard obtained his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1996 and is a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and the Association of Investment Management and Research.
Rick Ummat joined Jemekk Capital Management Inc. in February 2008, after completing his MBA. Rick was successful in several internships during his post graduate studies, which provided him with exposure to many facets in capital markets. Rick worked on the buy side at AIC Ltd; Corporate Banking at Scotia Capital; and Institutional Equity Research at CIBC World Markets.
Prior to starting his MBA, Rick worked in Private Wealth Management at CIBC Wood Gundy for over 2 years where he was licensed as a Registered Representative working on a team managing $125 million.
Rick holds a BBA in Finance and completed his MBA at DeGroote School of Business in Strategic Business Valuation. Rick is currently pursuing the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
